A Special Tribute on Memorial Day

May 25 11:45am

During this uncertain time, Maravilla Scottsdale's residents and team members united in spirit on Memorial Day to honor the brave heroes who sacrificed their lives for our country.

While practicing social distancing, the community commemorated the holiday together with a flag raising ceremony at noon, streamed online for all to enjoy, followed by a moment of silence at 3:00pm as the whole community stopped to pause, reflect and remember.

Stars and stripes adorned resident’s balconies and the smells and sounds of Memorial Day were enjoyed from the comfort of residents’ homes with a traditional barbecue in the courtyard along with patriotic music.

Maravilla's Zest Director Alissa created a moving tribute video featuring resident veterans as they reflected on their service and the service of those who have passed defending our freedoms.

Colonel Dwight Weber and Capitan Jack Meinert, M.D., spoke to importance of Memorial Day. Sondra Birdt shared the stories of her six brothers who served in WWII, one of whom was killed in the line of duty. Colonel Phillip Smith honored his cousin who was lost in action in China during WWII. And all year long, Maravilla Scottsdale pays tribute to resident veterans with a remembrance wall where their portraits are proudly displayed.

The community also honored team members who have served. A big thank you to Daniel Patrick Queen, Daniel Warren, and Colonel Phillip Smith for their service. To view the video, click on the link above.
