The Meaning Behind The Name

Many know the word ‘avocet’ as the name of a distinctive shore bird that gathers and nests along the Southern California shores. There is a deep symbolic meaning of avocet in many cultures around the world. For example, in Native American culture avocet means ‘where the land meets the sea meets the sky’ and symbolizes balance and harmony. In European culture, avocet represents transformation and renewal. And in Chinese culture, avocet is a symbol of longevity.     This is AMAZING place to live, sharing a lot of activities such as Bingo, Spintopia Fitness, Agua Fitness, Yoga and many more. We also have a large van for transportation of our residents for outdoor activities and shopping.

    The activities that I have participated in have been great! I enjoy all of the fitness classes here. I really enjoy the heart health HIIT circuit class and the gym circuit training class. I also enjoyed walking to walking to Central Park near by with the walking club here.

    I teach a technology class at Avocet Playa Vista. They have Great, helpful Staff! The residents are friendly and engaging and friendly. Lots of programs, classes, travel and more.

    We moved my dad into the assisted living floor and then to the memory care floor. He has had exceptional care. My mom on the other hand moved into a beautiful apartment in the building that is both comfortable and spacious. It’s great because the building is perfect for both of their needs. We toured many other facilities and this far exceeds the others. Avocet is a hidden gem for seniors!

    My wife and I recently visited Avocet to see if we wanted to live there. I called to set up an appointment at 9:00 am and spoke to Laurie Nussbaum. She couldn't have been more welcoming and agreed to meet us 2 hours later.She took us on a beautiful tour, gave us all the information we needed, and introduced us to several of the folks who live there. She treated us like family and made this experience terrific. She even threw in a lunch. Unfortunately for us, there was not a space available, but we are definitely going to consider it sometime soon. Also, the facility was beautiful and well maintained. and the food delicious!

    I have been here for 6 years. I really like the activities that they have. Specifically, I like painting, jewelry making, and the exercise classes. I also really like Spintopia because of the group of people that attend, and it forces me to think. There are a lot of activities to do here if you are looking to stay busy and keep from feeling lonely. The only issue that I have is that I have to make a reservation now to eat in the dining room. It has been really difficult for me to remember to make a reservation sometimes, but in the end, the dining staff have been very helpful to accomodate me and find a solution.

    I have been here for 6 months, and I am very satisfied with the amenities and services here. I would recommend Avocet to anybody! I visited 10 other places and this was the best place. I really enjoy attending the aqua fitness class and the strength and balance class. There are so many things to do here. I’m always busy.
