Holocaust educator and The Village at NorthRidge resident Joe Hess was only six years old when his parents put him on a train to escape Nazi Germany in a program called “Kindertransport.” He recently recounted his poignant story in honor of Days of Remembrance on SpectrumTV.
Observed annually, Days of Remembrance is an eight-day period that helps our nation remember and draw lessons from the Holocaust. Hess shared the trauma of witnessing the onsite of the atrocities, including his family’s synagogue being burned down in Fulda, Germany.
In addition to spreading a message of peace and unity during the interview, Hess also participated in the active retirement community’s newly launched podcast series, “The Golden Mic Experience,” providing insights into how the world can avoid the horrors of the past.
“The Golden Mic Experience” highlights the lives of the amazing residents calling The Village at NorthRidge home. From dating at 79 years old to shattering glass ceilings, audiences can hear the incredible tales of triumph through the prism of an older adult with host, talk show veteran Bill Moran.
