Hawthorn Court at Ahwatukee, an award-winning memory care community in Phoenix, Arizona invites the public to attend an information presentation, “Understanding Dementia for the Family”, on Wednesday, September 30th at noon.
Join us as we discuss positive ways to introduce children and teens to the effects of dementia on a loved one.
The Alzheimer’s Association has found that “children often experience a wide range of emotions when a parent or grandparent has Alzheimer’s disease. Younger children may be fearful that they will get the disease or that they did something to cause it. Teenagers may become resentful if they must take on more responsibilities or feel embarrassed that their parent or grandparent is ‘different’. College-bound children may be reluctant to leave home.”
Practical tips to create engaging interactions and alleviate fear will be discussed during the seminar as well as insights on how the entire family can successfully deal with a dementia diagnosis.
Hawthorn Court is located at 13822 South 46th Place. Reservations can be made by calling 632-239-0829.
