NorthWest Place Resident Remains Young at Heart at 101

At 101 years young, NorthWest Place resident Patrick Young has no plans to slow down…literally!

In addition to celebrating a recent birthday, Mr. Young is hard at work training for the upcoming Portland Shamrock Run. For the past four years, he’s participated in the run’s four-mile Shamrock Stride, amazing other runners who are more than half his age.

In fact, he earned the prestigious title of Portland’s healthiest 90-year-old in 2011. He makes fitness a daily focus to keep him young at heart and has participated in walking events, including the five-mile West Linn Wild.

As part of his birthday festivities, residents and staff at the Portland active retirement community paid tribute to Mr. Young, recognizing his incredible life. He had a distinguished military career and was a prisoner of war for seven years. He married the daughter of a Duchess and has traveled the world.

On March 6^th, to celebrate his big day, he donned his traditional Scottish family tartan and enjoyed gourmet gluten-free cakes, wine, Irish Crème Liqueur (his favorite) and great company!
