Maravilla Unveils Artist in Residence Gallery Display

In celebration of Maravilla at The Domain’s commitment to art enrichment and the value of art in all of its forms, the community hosted their first unveiling of the Artist in Residence art gallery. Residents and their families, prospects and Maravilla at The Domain staff recently reveled in the works of nine artists that will on display in the Maravilla café for the next three months.

The Artist in Residence art gallery display showcases resident artists as well as two local artists from the greater Austin community. Guests enjoyed remarks from artist and therapist Sandi Neiman, who emphasized the importance of creative expression through art and that one’s artistic ability knows no age. Throughout the event attendees noshed on appetizers and refreshments while listening to contemporary guitarist, Jonathan Potocki, while learning more about the featured artists and their unique mediums.

Art has been proven to help reduce feelings of anxiety, stress and depression in seniors. Studies have shown that participating in creative arts, such as dance, painting, writing, ceramics and more can greatly benefit both physical and mental health for seniors and help lower cortisol levels, therefore, reducing stress on the body. Individuals who exercise their artistic muscle are less likely to develop mild cognitive impairment. Maravilla at The Domain celebrates the opening of the display gallery as it creates a space for residents, visitors and artists alike to expand their artistic horizon and connect with the community.
