Joanne "Grandma" Appleman Honored for Volunteer Work
07-11-2017

Thanks to SRG senior living communities’ maintenance-free lifestyle, residents can choose to spend each day as they wish. For many, including Joanne “Grandma” Appleman at our La Vida Real community in Rancho San Diego, this means volunteering and being of service to others. She dedicates her time to Spring Valley Academy, where she works with students from Uzbekistan, Syria, Mexico, Vietnam and Uganda to help teach English. Additionally, she volunteers with 6th grade students, teaching language arts and English language development. Mrs. Appleman gives back to La Vida Real as well! She initiated the active retirement community’s “Can Do” service project, encouraging neighbors to recycle plastic bottles and aluminum cans to raise money for the school’s special education classes. Her hard work and dedication were recently recognized when she was presented with the Honorary Service Award by the California Parents & Teachers Association.
