Fitness Matters at Maravilla Scottsdale!

Prior to moving to Maravilla Scottsdale’s an active, luxury retirement community, many residents had never envisioned participating in a 5K event. On Saturday, September 23, they’ll lace up their sneakers to participate in their second 5K in five months.

In April, the group participated in the 5th annual “Run The Runway” 5K which took place at the Scottsdale Airport. The event seeks to end schoolyard bullying and serves as a fundraiser for the Playworks Arizona.

Ivy Holmes, Maravilla’s fitness instructor, thought it would be a great idea to share her passion with the community’s residents who have eagerly embraced her love of running and competing in 5Ks. In fact, resident Sue Gilbert, 82, not only completed the “Run the Runway” event but placed second in her age group!

Residents are sharing that they are “doing something we’ve never done before” and praising the training efforts of a series of pre-race training fitness classes and nutritional workshops for conditioning.

Thanks to the community’s wealth of health and wellness programs, even more residents are looking forward to participating in this month’s Run “FORE” Cancer 5K. The event benefits St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center and Barrow Neurological Institute. The event was founded in 2012 and is being held at the Silverado Gold Course.

It’s only a matter of time before these avid 5K participants register for their next 5K!
