Ever heard the saying “we rise by lifting others”? If that’s the case, the entire SRG Family is at the pinnacle. We’ve come together in so many ways to confront this unprecedented challenge. Here are just a few of the stories that vividly show what this means to us!
La Siena resident Webb T., an active artist, has a longstanding weekly tradition of painting with his daughter Barbara in the Phoenix community’s craft room. They would spend hours painting together until social distancing guidelines made them put down their brushes for the time being, and separate. Fellow residents tried their best to stand in for Barbara, but for Webb, it just wasn’t the same as having his daughter by his side. So, the team at La Siena connected him virtually with Barbara via video conferencing on an iPad, which they positioned in Barbara’s customary spot at Webb’s side. On a recent evening, the two reunited artists spent hours working, side-by-virtual-side, on their masterpieces.
The Team at Cypress at Golden Gate shared this recent photo highlighting their "community strength". Executive Director, Katherine T. shared "Every person on our team exhibits compassion, empathy, and kindness. Their strength during this pandemic is as strong as our namesake Cypress tree. I am proud to work with these resilient superheores." We couldn't have said it better ourselves. Thank you Katherine and the team at Cypress at Golden Gate!
It's always been pretty common to find Marilyn S., a resident at The Village at Northridge, in amongst the students at nearby Pierce College. Hand raised, voice too, and deep in discussion about the events of the day. Suddenly, she learned her lifelong learning class at the college, which regularly meets on Tuesdays at 10AM, was moved online due to the stay-at-home orders. For Marilyn, missing this opportunity to keep up to date on today’s Current Events and engage in thoughtful and in-depth discussions was not an option. Her community’s ZEST team, who were instrumental in her taking the class, sprang into action to help her connect via Zoom video conferencing and enjoy the lively exchange of ideas and opinions from the comfort of her home, keeping her connected in more ways than one.
The Foothills at Simi Valley received this wonderful, anonymous gift bringing smiles, albeit behind their masks, to everyone. Rumor has it, one of their amazing families secretly set up this inspirational gift. Thank you to all of our incredibly supportive families and to our staff who are working hard to protect our residents.
