The Carlisle Naples, our active retirement community in Southwest Florida, has an ongoing partnership a local elementary school. Throughout the school year, students from Sabal Palm Elementary are invited to spend a morning at the community for intergenerational fun.
Most recently, the first-graders stopped by to deliver spring crafts and enjoy a lovely luncheon with residents. The group also visited residents in the onsite assisted living residences to practice their reading skills.
“Residents love having the students at the community,” said Zest Director Mary Beth Baxter. “Intergenerational activities offer a wealth of benefits. It’s truly a win-win for both groups.”
Research has found students who participate in intergenerational programs tend to have higher self-esteem, feel more motivated and are less likely to skip school. Older adults also reap benefits such as an improved sense of purpose, higher degrees of life satisfaction and better physical health.
The local newspaper, Naples Daily News, featured the visit on the front page of the April 11th print edition as well as the online version in the form of a video.
The Carlisle has planned an upcoming Benefit Luncheon & Fashion Show on April 25th at noon, with event proceeds being used to fund Sabal Palm’s “wish list” projects.
The Carlisle offers both Independent and Assisted Living lifestyles. Available on a monthly fee basis, the ECC-licensed and CARF-accredited community boasts a full range of services and amenities including 12-hour restaurant dining, housekeeping, transportation and activities.
