101 Year Old NorthWest Place Resident Competes in Local 5K

His name says it all…young!

Patrick Young, 101 years old, is inspiring his neighbors at his NorthWest Place senior living community in Portland as well as fellow Portlanders.

He recently competed in the Jingle Bells 5K in Portland, earning the praise of participants and spectators.

Mr. Young is no stranger to fitness. In fact, he earned the prestigious title of Portland’s healthiest 90-year-old in 2011. He also makes fitness a daily focus to keep him young at heart and has participated in numerous walking events such as the five-mile West Linn Wild and the four-mile Shamrock Stride.

“NorthWest Place is a great place to live and continue being active,” said the former British shipping company manager.

Earlier this year, he celebrated his birthday donned in his traditional Scottish family tartan and enjoyed gourmet gluten-free cakes, wine, Irish Crème Liqueur (his favorite) and great company!

Mr. Young has led a very full life. He had a distinguished military career and was a prisoner of war for seven years. He married the daughter of a Duchess and has traveled the world extensively.
