Stay Safe and Fit with Cardio Drumming

June 1 1:45pm

During these unprecedented times, finding new ways to stay fit while still being safe can be a challenge.  At Narrows Glen, with it’s beautiful open spaces, residents are able to choose from multiple options. The community's health and wellness (Zest) team created a unique "cardio drumming" workout with the help of colorful stability balls, drumsticks and upbeat music making staying in shape easy when getting active is fun!

Suited for residents of all fitness levels, Zest Assistant Taylor C. leads a group of residents in a drumming routine for 30 minutes where heart rates are raised, arms are active, and sprits are high as they drum in unison to a song.  And following leading health experts’ guidelines, residents are socially distanced, staying 9’ apart for exercise and allowing them to partake in this cardio workout without the need for a mask, which can impact the release of CO2 particularly in older adults.

On this beautiful day, residents drummed to The Village People's "YMCA" in the fresh air. Previous cardio drumming classes included "disco cardio drumming" where lights were dimmed and a blacklight was turned on with special neon decorations and shirts were worn for a "disco" effect. It's a fun way to work up a sweat while having fun with neighbors!
