Discover “Skookum Wawa”

July 25 2:30pm

Narrows Glen welcomes Dale Wirsing from the Tacoma Historical Society for an educational talk entitled “Skookum Wawa: The Chinook Trade Language.” This is the Chinook dialect that enabled the natives to converse first with the representatives of the Hudson’s Bay Company, and later with the American newcomers. Skookum Wawa was spoken on the streets of Tacoma well into the 20th century, and a few individuals still speak it today. If you’d like to join us for this complimentary event, please call 253.236.0304 or email to RSVP.
