The Village at NorthRidge’s Veteran Olympian Knows the Thrill of Competition

The Village at NorthRidge’s Carmen Shiavoni knows firsthand the thrill and excitement of competing in an athletic competition.

He recently participated in the 26th National Veterans Golden Age Games in St. Louis.

The Games, hosted by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, offer sports and recreational competitive events for veterans 55 years of age and older.

Seven hundred and eighty seven veterans from 40 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands attended the 2012 National Veterans Golden Age Games.

Mr. Shiavoni won an impressive THREE medals: Silver in Croquet; Bronze in Table Tennis; and Bronze in 9-Ball Billiards.

Unlike athletes performing in the 2012 Olympics who have four years to train before the next Olympics, Mr. Shiavoni is busy preparing to defend his titles in the 2013 Games to be held in Buffalo, New York.
