Silver Springs Honors Resident Veterans with Memorial Wall
Ray Nelson, a resident at Silver Springs in Green Valley, Ariz., waited patiently as the last photo was installed on the luxury retirement community’s Memorial Wall. As he stepped back to observe the patriotic display, he felt a sense of pride knowing his dream to honor the community’s veterans had been accomplished.
The Silver Springs’ Memorial Wall was recently unveiled at the community for residents and visitors to learn more about the heroism, bravery and dedication of veterans.
Thirty residents are featured on the Memorial Wall and their photos, branches of service, ranks as well as memorable incidents that occurred during their military service, are prominently displayed on three walls in the community’s Living Room.
“The Memorial Wall has been a big hit among residents and guests,” said Program Director Sharon Mercer. “Mr. Nelson, a map maker by trade, said he had his own vision of how the display should look but felt that we’d taken it a step beyond that. He’s very excited about the Wall.”
Mr. Nelson currently serves as President of the Silver Springs’ Resident Council and is among a select group of World War II veterans chosen to participate in an upcoming Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials.
