Vibrant & Carefree Lifestyles Flourish at NorthWest Place

At NorthWest Place, residents are finding the luxury retirement community’s vibrant and carefree environment affords them the opportunity to continue the active, engaged lifestyles they’ve always enjoyed prior to moving to the Portland community.
Ruth Strubbe, Bette and Art Widder and Maureen Moller are just a few examples of the residents taking advantage of the community’s myriad of conveniences while pursuing their own interests and distinct lifestyles. Mrs. Strubbe compares NorthWest Place to her favorite pastime: cruising. The 97 year old completed her 50th cruise, recently returning from Hawaii. “I absolutely love living here. It’s like a cruise on land,” explained the former fashion model. “Everything is so convenient. Plus, my 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom residence is quite lovely.”
For Mrs. Strubbe, another similarity between life at NorthWest Place and cruising is the opportunity to spend each day as she wishes. An early-riser, she begins her days with a 5 a.m. breakfast then walks 6-8 miles on the treadmill. After a 9:30 a.m. exercise class with neighbors, she heads to the community’s onsite 12-hour Cascade Room restaurant for brunch. “The food here is absolutely excellent,” she explained. “I can’t say enough wonderful things about NorthWest Place."
Mrs. Widder agrees. She praises the community’s executive chef for providing outstanding food and including her favorites. The Widders have lived at NorthWest Place for nearly three years. They found the community had all the attributes they desired of an ideal place to enjoy retirement: a vibrant independent living lifestyle, delicious meals in a restaurant setting, and the worries and upkeep of maintaining a house – gone. With weekly housekeeping and flat linen service and many of the other daily chores taken care of, the Widders have time to pursue their own interests. Mr. Widder leads a lively history discussion group at NorthWest Place while Mrs. Widder enjoys playing Scrabble four times per week with neighbors. Mrs. Widder is also able to maintain her friendships with former nursing colleagues who she meets frequently at a local restaurant for breakfast. “It’s been wonderful to be able to continue our friendships but it has also been fun meeting new friends at NorthWest Place,” said Mrs. Widder. In addition to the charm of the community’s unique location—near 23rd Avenue in northwest Portland—Mrs. Moller, affectionately known to neighbors as Miss Energy, enjoys the camaraderie found at the community. She relocated from Pasadena, Calif., less than a year ago and relishes opportunities to explore city museums, art galleries and new places all easily accessible by street car. She then looks forward to sharing her latest find with neighbors at the community.
NorthWest Place’s carefree lifestyle also offers residents the opportunity to spend more time with family. Mrs. Moller’s daughter and son-in-law recently joined her for dinner at the community and, without the burden of having to grocery shop or cook, she was able to continue about her day as usual. “All of those things are done for me so I can continue my busy lifestyle,” said Mrs. Moller, who sold real estate for over 30 years. Northwest Place is truly heaven on Earth.”
Nestled within a vibrant, urban environment, NorthWest Place features 46 one- and two-bedroom residences, each complete with a fully equipped kitchen, washer/dryer and individual climate controls. Residents also enjoy beautifully designed amenities such as, a richly paneled library, comfortable lounge and cozy fireplace, spacious covered front porch and the lushly landscaped rooftop garden terrace. NorthWest Place, owned and operated by Senior Resource Group (SRG), takes an integrated approach to support, vitality, longevity and health of residents by offering a hospitality centered lifestyle, first-rate amenities and services. Residents can access supportive care to maintain their independence while remaining in their homes should the need arise.
