Cook (Full-Time / Part-Time)

JOB OBJECTIVE:
Prepares and cooks meals for residents according to the Community’s specifications, procedures and standards. Shares the responsibility for providing high quality dining service that takes into account residents’ preferences and special dietary requirements in compliance with applicable food and sanitation regulations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Prepares food items prior to cooking.
- Prepares food portions and presentations according to policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates safe food handling procedures with special emphasis on
critical control.
- Assists Food Service Director in identifying ways to improve food production and quality systems.
- Prepares special event foods as directed by supervisor.
- Helps train other kitchen personnel as directed by supervisor.
- Cooks all foodstuffs in quantities according to menu and number of persons
being served.
- Follows all menus and menu cycles. Prepares recipes that adhere to food costs and quality standards.
- Helps maintain preventative maintenance program for kitchen equipment.
- Helps control overproduction, waste, and theft of products.
- Works in a manner that promotes a safe and sanitary environment for staff, residents, and visitors; makes efforts to reduce safety hazards, accidents, and injuries.
ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience:
- Less than high school education required. High school diploma or GED preferred.
- One year related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Maintains current food handlers’ certificate.
- As required by local or state regulating bodies.
